UCL Union would like to state our concern over the statements made by Vice Chancellors today, and urge ministers instead to properly undertake the review of Top-up Fees promised by them three years ago.
We would like to emphasise our committment to supporting a Higher Education system that is free to students. At its recent AGM, the Union passed policy stating as much with an overwhelming majority in favour. Today, in line with that policy, a letter outlining all concerns and views of the Union was submitted to the Provost who said he would take the issue very seriously.
We believe that keeping the cap on fees is the first, minimum step towards implementing the ideas outlined in our policy.
