A message from the Men's Captain

The Men's Boat club has a history of rowing at a high level with a great number of crews competing at the world renowned Henley Royal Regatta. These crews have been made up of rowers who have either started the sport at university or earlier, so everybody has the opportunity to achieve success representing UCL. We mainly row in eights but we are aiming to diversify the club.

This year we are trying to improve upon our past and have goals that are in line with the infamous year of 2012. We're restructuring our training sessions both on and off the water so that we become a club that is to be reckoned with.

We have also got a new coach, Tom Wilkinson, who has represented Great Britain a number of times and at the moment rows for Leander when he's not going to be coaching us.

Off the water both the Men's and Women's clubs do a number of social events together, ensuring that there is more to the club than it being a sports team.

If you have any questions please e-mail mensboatclub@ucl.ac.uk to see what we're all about. If not there will be a stall at UCL Union's Freshers' Fayre during September where you can talk to any of our existing members and sign up!

Best wishes

A message from the Women's Captain

Welcome to UCLBC! By far the most prestigious club at University College London, joining the Boat Club is undoubtedly the most rewawrding thing that you will do during your time at uni. We train hard, we party hard - our rowing club is a fantastic community and we are always looking for new rowers - whether already sporting legends in the making or complete never-been-in-a-boat-before Novices.

Currently, we train three times a week with our Olympic coach Woody (just back from Beijing!) and with the help of our invaluable experienced student members. We are committed to achieving and improving and our current women's crew has great potential for the next Winter and Summer seasons.

Off the water we socialise weekly at Sports Night and our social secretaries are responsible for the enviable Christmas and Summer Balls. Please come along and meet the team at the Freshers' Fayre or if you have any questions, email us at womensboatclub@ucl.ac.uk.

Many thanks,

Stephanie Hawes

UCLBC Alumnus on Podium at the World Championships.

Congratulations go to Rob Williams from all at UCLBC who won bronze for GB in the quadruple scull at the World Rowing Championships in Munich.

He rowed with UCLBC for the 2003-2004 season before moving to London Rowing Club. Rob completed his undergraduate course in 2006 and is now working towards his PhD also at UCL.

Once again UCLBC would like to offer its heartiest congratualtions to Rob and look forward to watching his progress!
