The theme of the event is the Mid-Autumn Festival (otherwise also known as the Lantern Festival, Moon Festival). At the event, there will be games and quizzes and student performances, the aims of which are to help new Chinese students here to make friends and feel at home, and to provide an opportunity for those who are already here to bond with the new arrivals.

There will also be some British students learning Chinese who will share their experience of learning another language and a different culture.

The winners of the games will have the opportunity to spend time at the BBC World Service, Chinese Service to understand the operation of a modern multimedia online production house.

BBC Blast has teamed up with the V&A to organise a one-day Fashion Festival. Throughout the day there will be free workshops in T-Shirt design, fashion recycling, creative styling, hair and make-up, fashion illustration and many more.
