Whether you are a beginner, amateur, club player or a pro, we would love for you to join us at the UCLU Chess Society. Our membership is as diverse as the game itself, ranging across every year and faculty, but all united in their devotion to Chess. We convene every Friday of the term to fight it out over the board while spreading ideas, learning through experience, socialising and most importantly, having fun.

Don’t be afraid to join whatever your skill level – we provide lessons for beginners so that within a few weeks you will be approaching every game confidently with the know-how and ability to really enjoy the battle of minds. For those with sturdier abilities we will be holding team trials and a variety of differently styled tournaments, including blitz, rapid, slow, exchange and Fischer-clock play, with accompanying prizes.

UCL has a strong reputation for a high quality of Chess with our team successfully defending the ULU League title after an exceptional season. Our hope is to carry this success onwards into the coming year and as ever, we are on the lookout for new talent.
