This year was the 21st year of the Mandy Walker Games, an annual sports day
held in memory of Mandy Walker, a former student, UCLU Sports Officer and
popular figure at UCL who sadly passed away shortly after graduating. The
games were set up by her former friends and colleagues and involves past
students of UCL taking on current UCL students in a number of sports at
venues across London.
This year was a close fought affair with the students eventually beating the
alumni for the first time in 15 years! The alumni dominated the hockey,
winning all three games, but lost out notably in the rugby and football,
which went down to a nail biting penalty shootout. There were other wins for
the students in fencing and basketball with the alumni clinching the
lacrosse.
As always, many students and alumni headed back to UCLU bars for a
night of reminiscing, food and drink after a successful day of sport, with
the alumni already planning ways to regain the trophy next year after this
year's shock result.
