Music
The music society is one of the oldest and largest at UCL and is open to anyone within the University with an interest in music. Its aims are to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to get involved in music performance and to encourage the appreciation of music. The society runs four ensembles: the Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Choir, which are auditioned, and the Symphony Chorus and Concert Band, which are open to anyone whatever their standard. We also maintain a mailing list for anybody who wishes to hear music rather than be a playing member.
Members, whether listeners or performers, are given the opportunity to broaden their musical horizons through the termly concerts and regular trips to London concert venues, and their social horizons through the numerous parties arranged throughout the year.
In March the music society becomes University College Opera, possibly the most ambitious semi-professional university opera company in the country. Its performances of premieres and lost works provide students with the unique opportunity of performing exciting, challenging pieces with professional singers and directors. Join up to enjoy the rare opportunity to perform an Opera in a London Theatre.
