Request to Fundraise Form
Go Green & Environit
To raise environmental awareness and instill ways to demonstrate common every day practices that promote environmental consciousness in a week-long campaign.
To highlight the role students can play in fighting climate change by being more environmentally conscious - to foster a feeling of student responsibility on this issue - to draw attention to the Union's environmental working group - to put pressure on UCL to improve its environmental performance.
The objective is two-fold: information and demonstration. It will be held partly as a contest and partly as an information series through a film showing. Twenty students will be selected to initiate a campaign whereby the winner will be judged based on the number of members influenced. A prize will be awarded through our fund-raising efforts. Objectives of the contestant is to persuade select people to attend our information series through a talk, and video series. The last day of the week will announce the winner in a celebratory gathering that will also demonstrate and promote healthy ways to recycle.
AIDS Awareness Week
To raise awareness of HIV and AIDS with both an international and local focus, including fundraising.
Organise an event at a club. There would be red promo drinks. All proceeds from drinks and tickets would go to HIV Research at UCL.
This will be a wide-ranging campaign with many aims - some of which will change depending on whether more societies get involved. To raise awareness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the developing world and to demonstrate Britain's role in helping fight the disease. Also to challenge stereotypes commonly held in the UK and around UCL about HIV/AIDS to improve student's knowledge of this and other STI's - possibly undertaking a UCL-wide sexual health survey.
One World Week
Display, highlight and recognise the diversity of UCL students.
Black History Month: 200 years of Abolition
To commemorate the bi-centenary by celebrating black culture and facilitating debate.
Because this year marks the 200th year since the abolition of the slave trade in the British Commonwealth, it was decided by the UCL ACS that the occasion should be recognised via a series of events. The UCL ACS Black History Month Celebration will be a one-week affair broken down into five phases dedicated to aspects of black culture.
Have a day/ weekend trip to Liverpool to visit the new International Slavery Museum. The trip would accommodate 50 people on a first come first serve basis. The trip would simply raise awareness.
Free Your Freedom
How much of your freedom are you willing to sacrifice for the sake of security?
What risks are you willing to take for the sake of freedom?
Does having random people searched under the terrorist act remind you of 1984 or do you feel better to know that special security measures are being taken? This campaign is meant to encourage debate on and raise awareness towards one of the oldest yearned for ideals of all times.
Rag Week
To encourage students to fundraise for charity.
A week where all events and students aim to raise as much money for charity as possible.
Supporting Iraqi Students
To build links between UCLU and Iraqi students. To highlight the problems they face.
A campaign to build solidarity with students in Iraq through contact and support, enabling UCL students to hear about their experiences and raising awareness of the problems students face living under occupation and in areas of global conflict.
Disarm UCL
UCL should divest shares in arms company Cobham plc and adopt an ethical investment policy.
This would be a grass-roots campaign which campaigns for UCL to ditch the arms shares. We also want to make sure that UCL follows through on its recent commitment to adopt an ethical investment policy. The campaign is supported by a number of UCLU societies, UCLU and many students, staff members and alumni.
