As you can see, our website is now getting updated slightly more thoroughly, we are trying to get our events on the calendar, and (finally) get the committee page up.
So what do we have planned for you in the second term... Well some of it is still tbc, so I can't tell you about it yet, but I can tell you about two great events coming up:
In January, we have the Polish historian Adam Zamoyski coming to give us a talk about the congress of Vienna (that's 1815 by the way). Check out http://www.adamzamoyski.com/ if you want to find out more about our speaker.
At the end of January/start of february we'll have a whole week of events about Romania, including a talk about Vampires, a film screening, and the one we've been working on day and night for the past few weeks:
Romania in the EU: the way forward
A panel discussion about the challenges and opportunities presented by Romania's Accession to the EU. It will be on the 1st Feb 2007 and we have the following confirmed speakers:
Mark Field MP, Conservative MP for the Cities of Westminster and London
Dr Tom Galagher, Professor of Ethnic Conflict and Peace, University of Bradford
Raduţa Matache, Chargé d'Affaires at the Romanian Embassy in London
Dr David Phinnemore, Senior Lecturer in European Integration, Jean Monnet Chair in European Political Science
Anthony Steen MP
Other speakers are to be confirmed, and like all great talks, drinks will follow. It will be at 6.30pm, venue to be confirmed.
Otherwise, there will be films, food, drinks, culture, and more, so look out for posters and on the website, and if you want to see anything one in particular, e-mail masaryk.society@ucl.ac.uk
