Universities all over the country are rapidly becoming Greener thanks to student run
campaigns. Despite the management's promises, UCL is currently lagging behind lots
of other Unis and we need your help to create the environmental changes that are
needed.
This year People and Planet published the Green League 2008, which ranks universities
based on their environmental performance. UCL was ranked 100th out of 119 universities
who submitted information to the league, and received a Third. Due to this poor
performance, UCL was mentioned in an article in The Independent about the Green League.
To see the league, or for more information, see the People and Planet website. The next Green
League will be out soon!
Over the past year the Go Green campaign has petitioned the Provost, held film
screenings, held campaigning workshops, had articles printed in the student paper,
promoted the Climate march, held lectures and had a green fair in the Quad. From our
campaigning UCL has signed up to a Carbon Trust programme and set up an
Environmental Working Group. This year it’s absolutely crucial to expand our efforts so
the University lives up to its promises.
Over the coming year we will be working with the University’s Environmental Working
Party, promoting the London Climate March on December 6th and running a Green Week
in February among many other things. We're also campaigning about the meeting in Copenhagen in December later this year. If you would like to join our efforts to fight Climate
Change come along to People & Planet meetings or email peopleandplanet@ucl.ac.uk.
