UCL People and Planet is part of a London-wide network of People and Planet groups
who work together on campaigns. Last year there was a London Go Green Week that
organized events such as an Environmental Question Time bike repair workshops and green
fairs. There were also redress fashion stunts, a protest in Parliament Square about
plans for new coal, and Lobby  Days in Parliament Square for the Treat AIDS now and coal
campaigns.

This year we hope to work on more events with other London groups, hopefully beginning
with a social in the first few weeks of term! Our regional representative this year is Lewis,
from Roehampton University.

Hey London P&P groups

To all active students and lonely hearts the London regional day will be on the 14th
of Feb at SOAS university room B104 and B111. The day will be a chilled one with a
chance to reflect as a London network on our successes so far, check out some decent
workshops and have a free meal at Indian Veg afterwards - romantic!

Workshops will include: Corporate Power, Media Skills, Fundraising and Ditch Dirty
Development

It would be great to see at least 3 lovers from each group if possible. Also the
network is thinking of training up Fundraising Officers in each group. If you or
someone in your group is interested in this role make sure they come along and learn
how to strengthen the resources of the brilliant P&P network.

Tar Sands Event and DDD card hand in

On the 25th at Feb at SOAS Chief Al Lamemen will be giving a talk on tar sands
exploitation in Canada. The extraction of tar sands from Alberta, an area the size
of Florida, is devastating local ways of living as well as becoming one of the
greatest threats to preventing climate chaos.

The chief will be joined by other speakers (see bellow) and will come with us the
following day to hand in our Ditch Dirty Development action cards at RBS the next
day. This is a great chance to hold some events/stalls at your uni, raise awareness
of your group and this issue as well as get some cards signed to protest against
dirty development.

Posters and flyers for the event will be available at the regional day.

Hope to see you on the 14th

love your valentine and regional rep
