Welfare
The Medical School has a comprehensive welfare system in place to deal with all student problems.
1. Phase One: Daily walk-in surgeries
In the first place we would advise you to seek help from your PDS tutor, however if you are unable to do this or would rather see one of the assistant faculty tutors at one of the daily walk-in surgeries, please follow the link below. Both pastoral and academic matters are discussed during these sessions and the weekly rota of surgery sessions is emailed to all students on Mondays.
For more info check out http://www.ucl.ac.uk/medicalschool/current-students/welfare/Phase%201/index.htm
2. Phase Two/Three: Medical Student Advisor Scheme.
In year three (first year clinical) you will be assigned an advisor and expected to have four appointments over the course of this year. During years four and five you are expected to have at least one appointment each year with your advisor in order that they can track your progress, potentially write you a reference, and give advice on foundation year applications.
For more info check out https://www.ucl.ac.uk/medicalschool/current-students/welfare/Phase%2023/MSA%20index.htm.
3. Student Welfare Clinics
Daily (usually 9am - 12pm) at one of the three main sites. To book an appointment call 0207 679 0859 or 0207 472 6108 or email studentwelfare@medsch.ucl.ac.uk.
These clinics are run by the Faculty Tutor, Associate Faculty Tutor, and Sub-Deans for Student Welfare and are designed to offer a wide range of support from exceptional leave, interruptions of study, and financial difficulties to emotional and psychological help. Urgent appointments can be made the same morning although it is anticipated that the majority of slots will be pre-booked. Bookings should be made via Medical Student Administration either in person or by telephone.

The UCL Medical School Chaplain, the Reverend Philippa A. Turner, offers Pastoral Care to all students, regardless of faith background or religious belief. She is available as a resource for any religious or spiritual issues. Support can be offered on personal matters, relationships and ethical decision-making, matters of social action and justice, and activity in the University and wider community. She can also provide information regarding local places of worship for all major faiths.
The Chaplain offers opportunities to engage in discussions regarding faith and ethical issues, takes groups to various lectures, debates and exhibits, and has a regular Wednesday lunch during term time to which all students are welcome. She is also available for prayer requests and concerns, and for those who wish to prepare for Baptism or Confirmation.
