Shorinji Kempo is a Japanese, non-competitive martial art: based on ancient Chinese techniques with its roots in the teachings of Zen Buddhism. This discipline incorporates self-defence, philosophy, meditation and healing massage, brought together by very high standards of teaching.

Shorinji Kempo does not rely on physical strength but instead on skill and technique.

The physical techniques that made up Shorinji Kempo can be divided into two systems.

Goho are the hard techniques and involve punches, kicks and blocks and dodges.

Juho are the 'soft' techniques and involve throws, locks and pins.
