Check out the old skool NUS logo.... Those were the days...
As you may have read in the last few weeks, today is the deadline for us to submit motions for discussion at NUS Conference (the annual event, held in March, at which the National Union of Students debates and decides its policies to work to for the next year). We get to submit one motion in each of the four areas (Welfare & Students Rights, Strong & Active Unions, Society & Citizenship and Education) that the NUS works in.
Last Monday, Union Council met to consider the motions that you had submitted and decide the final three (one had already been voted in at Welcome General meeting in October) to be submitted to the NUS, and here they are, together with the category in the which they've been submitted:
Education:
‘Studying Medicine; fairness and equality’

http://www.uclunion.org/student-union/downloads/nusmotionmedicinedoc.doc
Strong & Active Unions:
‘Inclusion of minority groups in students’ unions’
http://www.uclunion.org/student-union/downloads/nusmotioninclusion.pdf
http://www.uclunion.org/student-union/downloads/nusmotioninclusiondoc.doc
Welfare & Student Rights:
‘Student welfare in London’
http://www.uclunion.org/student-union/downloads/nusmotionlondon.pdf
http://www.uclunion.org/student-union/downloads/nusmotionlondondoc.doc
Society & Citizenship
‘Students wearing the Islamic dress on campus’
http://www.uclunion.org/student-union/downloads/nusmotionislamicdress.pdf
http://www.uclunion.org/student-union/downloads/nusmotionsislamicdressdoc.doc
These motions now go the NUS Steering Committee, who will verify that they are appropriate for the NUS to take on as policy. They will then be put into the national pool of motions, as submitted by Unions across the country and potentially put forward for debate and acceptance at the NUS conference next Easter - more on that nearer the time.
