UCL Union News - New Years New Tears

As 2007 disappears over the horizon faster than Big Sam Allardyce races out of Newcastle, clutching two huge bags; one marked "SWAG" and the other "GEORDIES' TEARS", it's time to ignore reflection, learning from mistakes and other such nonsense in favour of looking to the FUTURE. For 2008 is the year of change - a change to our economic fortunes, a change to our international relations, and a destruction of boundaries. Now is the time for us to take the future and, yes, make it our own!

And I'm going to stop asking Barack Obama to help me writing these emails.

1. RUSSIAN ELVIS. OH MY.

Glasnost' returns (much like batman) with a special live performance from 'The Church of Elvis' (not much like batman). Yes, Easy J's opens its doors to the icy winds of the East, and the warm blast of the vodka in the best combination of cold and warm since man first urinated in the ocean.

7pm-11pm in Easy J's (possibly named after the "Easy V doesn't come for free/She's a real lady" lyric from the Spice Girls' "Wannabe"? The jury is out) as usual, this Monday (the 14th of January). Bring Russian accents and party like Pushkin.

2. JOKES FOR THE COMMON MAN

Terrified by the small possibility the most powerful nation in the world may soon be in the control of a Chuck-Norris-endorsed bass-guitar playing evangelist? Laugh away your fears this Wednesday the 16th at Huntley Street.

The Dent Room plays host to the finest comedy improvisation minds since last Sunday, DEAD MAN IN A BOX. They will be wowing friends and mortal enemies alike from 8pm onwards. Arrive early to avoid disappointment and laugh heartily to avoid their disappointment.

3. STOP A PANDA/POPAGANDA

Nostalgically waving off our delightful first year in our own union, we salute whats to come with confidence and very wide grins on our faces. Yes, bring on the new year. Well, as the middle-class, middle-age women of New Hampshire said when presented with the possibility of an intelligent, forward-thinking, young president who isn't ensconced in Washingtonian bureaucracy and who might actually change the country for the better, "THAT'S ENOUGH".

Any comments/insults of my politics to mc.officer@ucl.ac.uk
