Is it just me or does anyone else think that charging £15 to attend your own graduation ceremony is an absolute disgrace. It seems to me that UCL is using student graduations as a money making opportunity. When I told my mother it would cost £100 for the entire family to attend she said, "Oh surely it must include a 3 course meal afterwards"
So in total including gown hire it will set my family back £151 for 2 hours of sitting bored, and 30 seconds of seeing me collect my certificate. Should the union not make some kind investigation into UCL and discover what the £25 price of a ticket is based on?

If it's anything like my graduation ceremony, there is also a nice reception afterwards with food, live music (a string quartet in my case) and free champagne and Pimm's.

Apparently you don't even get your certificate given to you then, it goes in the post...So you pay all that money to shake someones hand. This is not just me, see the facebook group "http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=10963989639" Should the union not do something about it?!

I think there is a serious access issue in a lot of aspects of the graduation ceremonies, and hope that we'll be able to look into it next year. Sadly, I think it's too late for this year's graduands to see any changes.
