Executive Committee Statement on the recent AGM
Many of you have raised concerns about the running of this year’s AGM. We appreciate that many students were turned away due to fire regulations within the theatre. We did expect a larger number of students which is why we hired the biggest available venue at short notice in the local area, as opposed to a lecture theatre as done in previous years. However given the past attendance (see below) we had no reason to suspect that such a fantastic turn out would occur. The last time such a turnout was achieved was when a merger of Imperial and UCL was proposed in 2002/3.
We apologise unreservedly to those members who were unable to attend and who exhibited exemplary patience in queuing to attempt to gain entry, however according to the constitution and standing orders the meeting is valid and motions passed stand as union policy.
Building on the success of the AGM campaign, the officers are looking into the issues raised including, better queue control, faster registration and finding other possible venues for next year and further meetings. We would encourage you to vote in the current elections and for officers who will be responsible for planning and accommodating next year's AGM and WGM.

Clinical Pres. report
The annual MDs Comedy Revue went off with a bang, with large audience in the Bloomsbury theatre being treated to (or with!) something 'completely C.diff-erent'. At the RUMS Welcome General Meeting, the name of our students union was debated in the light of the recent change in the name of the School to UCL Medical School (previously Royal Free & UC Medical School). The overwhelming result of the vote, at what was one of the best attended general meetings concluded that the name of the union should remain as RUMS. The acronym, despite appearing cosmetically unchanged, now stands for Royal Free, University College and Middlesex Medical Students Society.
RUMS in collaboration with the School has begun work on a survey of harassment and bullying in the Medical School, the results of which we hope will be very interesting. The Medical School is planning major changes to its pastoral care system, and RUMS officers are giving significant input to that process.
We have also recently had the news that our dean, Prof Ed Byrne, will sadly be leaving UCL for Australia at the end of this academic year. RUMS wishes him well in his new post.

NUS Delegation
Following concerns raised by members regarding the NUS delegate election count, NUS were approached to provide advice to the union regarding the way forward. On Wednesday 5th November, 2 members of NUS staff conducted a manual recount using the electronic data produced from the voting system. As a result of the re-count, the original results changed. The new results mean there are still 2 casual vacancies to fill. This will now be done in accordance with UCL Union rules. The problem raised by this election is a common one in a variety of Unions. Most electronic systems are not able to cope with the concept of re-introducing Re-open Nominations once it has been elected as a candidate. This is something NUS are working on to provide advice for those with such electronic systems.
