and i do wonder if anyone will read this?
so...i believe i am supposed to write some sort of vaguely interesting comments on my own work over the last half term.
well, obviously, this is the autumn term, very quickly turning into a chilly winter (holidays, YAAAAY!). a new group of freshers are here and probably know their way around college, london and its offerings as well as i do.
my job, in many respects, is supposed to make everyone's (i hate apostrophes, please correct me if that one is wrong, it is late in the evening and i have been singing about murder all day, check out the union claendar to find out why, hint: it's a musical!) life a little more enjoyable by finding and putting on entertainments that people want to see. so i want all 19,300 UCL students to email me and tell me exactly what they want to see going on in their/your/our union....unrealistic you say? yes, i know. this officer business is much more daunting than i thought.
i am gradually trying work out ways in which i can improve the breadth of entertainments in the union, and possibly find a few ones which are/would be widely popular. i myself am committee-phobic, but i'll make a little exception (like, i don't like vegetables, except potatoes and raw carrots) for a certain entertainments committee. this was a regular feature in the 2004-05 union calendar, usually well-attended and, reportedly, lots of fun! looking into this going ahead after christmas, when our new events manager will have settled in nicely and everyone will be refreshed and ready for a new term of hard work and harder play.
if you are interested in having some input in entertainments at UCLU, then get in touch with me via email. i will try and respond within a couple of days, but if i don't, it doesn't mean i don't love you.
freshers' week events sold out, Nightmare on Cleveland Street was packed and sweaty, and the Roxy, Cheapskates, Vodka Island, I Like it Rare, Gardening Club etc etc are full of UCL students so i know you all like to play hard. all i need to know is to what music, with/without a theme, what time, where, how much, why and (for those in Jekyll and Hyde) 'ow.
Bravehearts and Tarts on 30th of November in the Windeyer, a wee celebration of Scottish-ness in the Windeyer. see the calendar for more info.
work hard children, don't forget for every minute spent writing an essay, there are 3 minutes congratulatory playing time.
with love and affection, and possibly a yawn.
