Who we are, what we do and why you should join us!
Background
Tech society evolved from Computer Science (CS) society in 2005, in part to better reflect the philosophy behind our society – passion for technology and inter-disciplinary work. With CS society largely focussed on CS students, there was a realisation that rapidly growing inter-disciplinary nature of CS couldn’t be catered to, due to limitations in the CS society’s commitments and focus. Thus, aforementioned circumstances engendered the evolution to tech society. However, the spirit of cooperation and zeal for fun is just as strong - if not more - within tech society as in the past.
techSociety – Why do we write it like this?
You may have noticed and wondered as to why we write ‘techSociety’ as opposed to tech society. Our name reflects a common programming convention for methods in which the first word is in small caps and first letter of the second word is capitalised. For those who know programming, it highlights the fact that we serve a function but perhaps more importantly that we are part of UCL community.
