TOYNBEE HALL
We have a wide range of volunteering opportunities within Toynbee Hall: Young People and Families available and these are changing all the time. We are currently building up a pool of approved volunteers who will be informed directly about any opportunities arising.
Our experience shows that the main obstacle for people who want to volunteer is a process of CRB checks. It can take even several months before a CRB check is completed and often it becomes too late to take a role. That is why we propose potential volunteers to get registered and undergo CRB checks before applying for a particular role.
Examples of some of our current projects:
+Audio Workshop Volunteer
The Sonic Postcards project will work with 25 young people who are at risk to be excluded early in their secondary school life or become regular truants.
Each group with an adult worker will explore local places of interest to create an exciting short recording of their world. Using free ICT software each young person produces a virtual postcard about their physical and personal environment using their MP3 recordings. The young people then upload their virtual postcards onto the Sonic Postcards website, where they can be exchanged with communities nationwide.
The volunteer will support the facilitators in guiding and motivating the young people in the workshops. They will help to keep the children’s focus in the task in hand and guide them in producing their audio tracks.
Please note that we need volunteers who already have a CRB check and we will need to see the original copy of the disclosure form as the projects are ongoing and volunteers are to start as soon as possible.
+Music Workshop Volunteer
In partnership with Live Music Now Toynbee Hall will run three music workshops with three different groups. These workshops will be run by bands sponsored by Live Music Now, who have a lot of experience in workshop delivery. The groups will come from different musical genres and backgrounds. There will be a final showcase performance at either Toynbee or some appropriate venue in Tower Hamlets.
The project aims to promote involvement in music and provide an inspirational experience for the groups. We will be working with Bangladeshi girls, with Young People from Pupil Referral Unit and with an intergenerational group.
The volunteer will work alongside the workshop facilitators guiding and motivating the groups’ learning and sustaining their focus.
Please note that we need volunteers who already have a CRB check and we will need to see the original copy of the disclosure form as the projects are ongoing and volunteers are to start as soon as possible.
