++ SUMMER HOLIDAY VOLUNTEERING ++
SENSE
Sense - the national charity working with people who are both deaf and blind – needs volunteers to come forward from all over the country to help deafblind children and adults have a holiday to remember this summer.

Sense holidays enable holidaymakers to have fun in a supportive environment, gain new experiences and meet new people. Our holidays also give parents and carers a chance to have a well-earned break. Around 200 volunteers and leaders go along each summer to make these holidays a unique experience.

No experience is necessary and you don't need to have done anything similar before as the volunteer preparation day and training pack ensure volunteers have all the skills they need before their holiday begins.

We’re looking for volunteers who are committed to the holiday and who have the enthusiasm and drive to make it work. For more info email John at j.braime@ucl.ac.uk

++ SHORT TERM RESEARCH ++
ASSOCIATION OF CHARITY SHOPS
We are a member organisation set up to support charities with shops. Our main role is to provide information, advice, support and training to members and other charities. We currently have around 260 members operating around 6500 shops.

Our current volunteering opportunity is to carry out a survey into the use of our website by our members. We have noticed that there are a number of members not using our website or using it very infrequently and would like to find out more about their reasons for not using the website. We also want to find out about any ways we can improve the website and any useful features/information we can add to it. We aim to do this by carrying out a telephone survey.

If you’d like to get involved, email Rosie at r.oglesby@ucl.ac.uk

++ ONE OFF: FOOTBALL ++
STREET LEAGUE TOURNAMENT HELPERS NEEDED 5TH APRIL
The Street League is an organisation provided support for homeless people, refugees, and other disadvantaged groups. Twice a year, we hold ‘twinning’ tournaments for some of our regular players and employees from our corporate sponsors. The corporate employees and players join together to make up 11-a-side teams. These twinning tournaments are a really good example of how football can break down barriers and act as a unifying factor amongst people who come from very different backgrounds.

We need volunteers to help with all aspects of running the tournament, from helping staff co-ordinate the teams, to registering players at the start of the day and supervising the changing areas, to recording scores, to helping set out refreshments and lunch, and helping run a quiz!

If you can help out at our next event on 5th April, please get in touch via John at j.braime@ucl.ac.uk

ELTHORNE HOUSING GUIDE
Elthorne Community Project (ECP) is a local organisation, based in north Islington that works with local residents, tenants and residents associations and other groups/organisation around housing and social/community cohesion issues.

In addition to our work above, we are also in the process of producing a “self help” Information Guide for the local area.

We are currently looking for someone to help us:
- Gather, collate and update information from a variety of different sources
- Develop the most appropriate way of displaying, organising and storing this information
- Communicate with a variety of individuals and organisations face-to-face, on the phone, in writing or by email
- Co-ordinate the distribution of the guide
- To investigate possible sources of funding for the guide

We believe that this a very interesting piece of work with an opportunity for somebody to make a real difference in the area - and it will provide lots of scope for using existing skills and learning some new ones along the way.

Interested but would like to know more, then please get in touch – email j.braime@ucl.ac.uk

HELP RAISE MONEY FOR ROYAL NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF THE BLIND
If you have a few hours to spare maybe you would like to help raise funds for blind and partially sighted people and take part in a bucket collection with the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB)? RNIB is the UK's leading charity offering information, support and advice to over two million people with sight problems. Collections take place throughout the year in central London and the next date is Sunday 22nd April at the London Marathon. LONDON AIR AMBULANCE
London’s Air Ambulance (LAA) provides medical care to victims of ‘major trauma’, those suffering from life threatening injuries to the brain or spine, penetrating injuries, fractures or burns, everywhere within the M25 ring-road. The Helicopter (or rapid response cars at night) carries a specialist trauma doctor so the patient can start receiving the correct treatment at the accident site instead of waiting to reach a hospital. Even though our service saves the lives of many people we are a charity and must raise £750,000 each year to survive. This is why we need your help! If you are able to offer any number of hours per month to; ‘shake a bucket’ at pre-booked venues, help switch over full donations tins in shops in your area, or if you can come into the office to help with some of the numerous tasks we have to do each week, any help would be appreciated. To find out more, email John at j.braime@ucl.ac.uk

++ GRAPHIC DESIGN / ONE OFF ACTIVITY +++
METHODIST RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT FUND
MRDF works with locally-based organisations in over 20 countries to encourage communities to work their way out of poverty and build sustainable livelihoods, and to respond to emergency situations with humanitarian aid. We are looking for a student with skills in graphic/layout design to produce a simple, cost effective and attracting new fundraising pack. The duties involve designing a layout for an MRDF fundraising pack to be produced in house, and in setting up templates so staff can add updates in future. The work will probably only take 1 day, which could be done any weekday before the end of April. We’ll get a lovely new fundraising pack that will help us raise more money for our international development work, and you’ll get useful work experience that will be particularly useful for those thinking of going into publishing / editing / writing or graphic design. For more info, contact John at j.braime@ucl.ac.uk
