LONDON’S AIR AMBULANCE – COLLECTORS REQUIRED FOR ARSENAL VS CHELSEA 6TH MAY
London’s Air Ambulance has the opportunity to hold a charity collection at the Arsenal Vs Chelsea Premiership match on Sunday 6th May 2007. This could be very successful for us if we can find enough people to help us shake a bucket for a few hours on the day. It should be really fun as there will be a lot of us there and football fans are very generous- so if you can spare some time your help would be very much appreciated. London’s Air Ambulance is a charity and as such we must raise 750,000 per year through charitable funding in order to continue the provision of crucial pre-hospital care to victims of major trauma throughout London. This means we are reliant upon the kind gestures of volunteers to help us make the most of opportunities like this. For more information, email John at j.braime@ucl.ac.uk

HELPERS WANTED FOR CAMDEN GREEN FAIR
Camden Green Fair 2007 is happening on Sunday 3rd June @ Regents Park, Cumberland and Gloucester Gate.

The Camden Green Fair and Bikefest is London's most popular free green event, attracting more than 20,000 visitors each year. The fair is managed by a small community group and this year we need the help of 100 enthusiastic volunteers. If you are interested in green and ethical issues, and have a few hours to spare, why not help us to put on the best free Green Fair in London? Be part of it!

As a steward, you’ll be the eyes and ears of the fair, supporting coordinators in each themed zone, helping to keep the site clean and ensuring the general public have a fantastic day.

Volunteering is a fun and rewarding way to meet new people, learn new skills, support your local community and can make a positive difference to you and others. And why not encourage a friend to volunteer too and make even more difference this summer? All volunteers will receive pre event training and each will receive a thank you pack.

If you want to be part of this exciting event please register your interest by emailing John at j.braime@ucl.ac.uk as soon as possible and no later than Monday 14 May 12noon.

++ COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ++
TOYNBEE HALL RESIDENTIAL VOLUNTEERING
Toynbee Hall is now recruiting for its residential volunteer programme, running from September 2007 to August 2008.

Toynbee Hall produces practical innovative programmes for local people to improve conditions and enable communities to fulfill their potential. We’re based in the East End.

This programme provides a unique opportunity for a small community of 15 active volunteers to live on-site for 1 year, in good quality affordable accommodation in Zone 1. We ask for an average of 6 hours per week of volunteering, which allows volunteers to work, study or pursue other interests, (although many volunteering opportunities will only be available during the day). Volunteer roles at Toynbee Hall include assisting and leading young peoples programmes, assisting within the older peoples day centre and getting involved with adult advice or with researching and developing new projects. We also have a number of sponsored places (free accommodation, basic living costs reimbursed), in the areas of youth work, social policy research and community arts. These roles will require around 20 hours of volunteering per week.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday 31st May and the interviews will be held around the 18th-22nd June.

To find out more, email John at j.braime@ucl.ac.uk

++ HOMLESSNESS / FOOTBALL ++
STREET LEAGUE CV WRITING PROJECT
Street League is a football project for homeless people, refugees and asylum seekers, and other disadvantaged groups. We’re looking for volunteers for our CV writing courses. At these, the players list skills that they have developed playing football, and explore how these skills are transferable to the work place. Using the information the players give us, and a template in Microsoft Word, we create a football CV and a work related CV for each player. We are looking for a volunteer (or a couple of volunteers) who can help us create these CVs and burn them on to disks, to give back to the players. The players are unable to produce the CVs themselves as time and computer access are limited on the one-day courses.

The role will involve using your imagination and ingenuity to create interesting and accurate CVs which will help our players when they apply for jobs.

We currently have a number of players waiting for their CVs to be processed, and estimate that it would take one working day to complete them.

To get involved, email John at j.braime@ucl.ac.uk
