ABBEY 1-UCL AWARDS
Do you know someone who has made a difference?
Do you know someone who deserves recognition for it?
Student life has always been about more than just studying. Getting involved in life inside and outside UCL is at the heart of university experience, and the Abbey 1-UCL awards have been launched to recognise students’ achievements in non-academic activities. If you know someone who you think has made a significant contribution – it could be through work in a club or society, through volunteering or mentoring to name just a few examples – you can nominate them now for an Abbey 1-UCL award.
The awards, which are supported by Abbey, can be made to an individual student or group of students enrolled for study or research at UCL. Each award consists of a £1000 donation to the organisation of the award holder’s choice, and the winners will also be recognised at an awards event.
Nominating is easy – just go to
www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/scholarships/undergraduate/1_UCL
and download the nomination form.
The deadline for nominations is 1st July 2007.

FITZROVIA YOUTH IN ACTION - VOLUNTEER DRUGS AND ALCOHOL OUTREACH PROJECT
Project to start June 2007
The objective of the 'Volunteer Drugs and Alcohol Outreach Project' is to recruit 35 young people (16-24 yrs) and provide them with training and support to run one-off awareness campaigns around drug and alcohol use. The awareness campaigns would be fun events such as barbeques, mini football tournament and similar innovative gatherings to reach as many local youth as possible and to educate and to inform them about drugs and alcohol.
FYA is looking for five UCL students who would support these young people and help them realize their projects. They would be in charge of overseeing the planning and delivery of these campaigns, and support volunteers in making a video and leaflet which can be used for recruitment of future volunteers for youth-led drug and alcohol projects. The five volunteers would also have to make a film about their own progress, the experiences gained and difficulties encountered to show other students about their personal development through this project. The five students would have to meet up on a weekly basis for three hours here at FYA, however a few additional hours might be required as well, to carry out the arranged tasks and go to the events organized by the young people.

GREAT ORMOND STREET – FUNDRAISERS NEEDED
If you are have time to spare during the summer, why not join our dynamic fundraising team here at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity?
As a charity our donors are our most precious assets and we need to ensure we know who they are and that we thank them for their generosity. This requires clean data in our database. We need help with two particular tasks over the summer:
1) Using the database, match Gift Aid declarations to the right donor.
2) Scanning donor details using a scanner like the ones in the supermarket.
These tasks are vital to us and your assistance would go a long way to helping us achieve our aim to raise more than £150 million over the next five years to keep the hospital at the forefront of paediatric medicine.
