UCL Unions Innovations Programme is now recruiting for project leaders for next academic year.
If youd like to run a volunteer project that benefits the local community and to develop your project management and leadership skills whilst youre at it then this is your chance to get involved. Were looking both for leaders for existing activities and for students with bright ideas for new community action projects. Full support is provided by the Voluntary Services Unit.

SOUP ENTERTAINMENT.
Do you have a creative talent, e.g. playing a musical instrument, singing, dancing, comedy, writing? Would you like to share it with others and get to know people outside of the UCL community?
Soup Entertainment is a VSU project run for all UCL students. We are looking for volunteers to perform in front of a small group of elderly, uplifting people in Archway on Thursday afternoons. Performances can last from 10 minutes to half an hour and you are free to plan your own performances. Travel expenses are reimbursed.

OPEN HOUSE LONDON 2007.
Londons biggest architectural exhibition gives everyone the opportunity to visit over 660 buildings both new and old across London.
Many of them normally closed to the public and completely free of charge.
In 2007 it takes place on the 15th and 16th September.

SERVICE USER GROUP (SUG)
This exciting new project aims to involve people who benefit from the services SANE provides in the development of the charity, with particular focus on SANEline.
SUG presently has 6 members and we are looking to expand the group to 10. Members are all adult (18 years onwards) service users who have been affected by mental health problems, either themselves, or through someone they know, such as a close friend or relative. The term ‘service user’ is to reflect their past, current, future or potential use of SANEline.
We are currently looking for members who have experience and knowledge of using SANEline and/or mental health services, either themselves or as a carer. SUG will provide an excellent opportunity for you to:
- Be involved with the work SANE does and the development of SANEline in particular.
- Meet other people who share a similar interest and experiences
- Provide you with transferable skills, which may be beneficial to your personal and professional development.
Meetings are held quarterly, in East London. Membership is free and members work in a voluntary capacity, but SANE will fully reimburse travel expenses for travel within London travel zones 1-6, by the cheapest method of public transport.

SEE GRASS ROOTS DEVELOPMENT IN ACTION.
Are you interested in a career in development? Are you looking for experience in fundraising or something unique to add to your CV? With Health Unlimited’s job shadowing programme, you will experience international development in remote communities and at grassroots level as well as gain valuable fundraising experience to make you stand out to future employers.
Health Unlimited is an overseas aid charity specialised in delivering health services in the remote areas of countries, which have been affected by conflict or political instability. The Field Exposure Programme allows people with an interest in international development the opportunity to spend up to 10 days shadowing some of Health Unlimited’s field staff in Cambodia, Rwanda or Guatemala.
In return you are expected to raise a minimum of £5000 either on your own or with a partner over a period of 12 months. Not only will this give you great fundraising experience to put on your CV but by fundraising you will also be helping to promote awareness of Health Unlimited and the valuable work that we do in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

HELP LOCAL CHILDREN WITH THEIR HOMEWORK
At St Clement & St James Community Project are looking for enthusiastic Volunteer Tutors for our Academic Support program which is a centre-based project that provides an appealing and positive working environment where local children receive specialist support with school work.
The purpose of the Academic Support Volunteer Tutor is to help local children from aged 8-18 years with their homework in a safe and stimulating environment. Tutors provide children with support by assisting them with their work, guiding their choice of worksheets, listening to them read and helping the children on the computers. This role suits people who are great team-players, who are fun-loving and enjoy being with children. Volunteer Tutors will be excellent role models and thrive on helping children learn. Experience is not essential but enthusiasm and energy is paramount!
We like you to commit to at least one evening a week, 3.00-6.00pm preferably, although we are flexible with hours to suit the individuals needs.
We will provide Induction training as well as termly training sessions; on-going mentoring and support, email updates and questionnaires.
We are based in North Kensington the nearest tube station is Latimer Road.

BECOME A PART OF THE GROUNDBREAKING ‘ASPIRE PROJECT’
Toynbee Hall is currently looking for VOLUNTEER COACHES to work with the young people taking part in our groundbreaking Aspire Project. The Aspire Project engages 50 young people, classified as “Excluded within school”, on a year long programme of activities aimed at building their aspirations, raising self esteem and confidence in accessing the curriculum and ultimately helping them to reach their potential.
Volunteer Coaches will play a vital role in guiding the young people through the course of the project, helping them to engage with and get the most out of the project activities and providing practical support around areas such as learning and study skills where necessary/appropriate.
As this is a Volunteer role we would like to work with people who are aged 18-25. If you do not fall within this age bracket, please do still get in touch as we have other roles within Toynbee Hall which might be of interest to you.
We would like to hear from volunteers who expect to be able to commit to the duration of the project (September- June). Around 4 hours per month. Due to the nature of the project, volunteers would need to be available during school hours.
An outgoing and enthusiastic approach as well as a real commitment to the project is equally important. This position will require an Enhanced CRB check.

HELP YOUNG PEOPLE DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS AND BROADEN THEIR HORIZONS.
You will be working with Toynbee Hall’s young people and families team which works with young people to develop their skills and broaden their horizons.
The workshops you will be delivering aim to encourage young people (14-15 year olds) to question the world around them. Why is the world unfair? What is the law? Who holds power? They have been developed by young people and piloted now we want to build on their success and roll them out across London.
As a workshop facilitator you will have the opportunity to further develop the existing citizenship programme and to deliver the workshops in an innovative enthusiastic style. You will also have the opportunity to get further involved in supporting young people to be active citizens, campaigning on issues they care about.
The volunteers will be:
Able to engage with and encourage young people.
Knowledgeable/interested in social issues/campaigning, current affairs etc.
Confident articulating complex social issues in innovative ways.
Keen to see young people become empowered, informed citizens.
Able to make quick decisions and be flexible under pressure.
Flexible time commitment but you will need to be available during school hours.
This volunteer position is based in London.

++SAFE RESEARCH INTERNS++
SAFE (Services Against Financial Exclusion) provides practical support to help people on low incomes to manage their money more efficiently and to access specific financial services.
This role involves conducting primary research with members of the public, arranging interviews, conducting and recording the interviews for further analysis. There will be some directly associated administrative tasks, including contacting potential interviewees and partner organisations, as well as recording research findings.
We are looking for candidates with good verbal and written English, good telephone manner and a basic understanding of social exclusion, available for at least 16 hours a week over 2-3 months.
Volunteer gains: experience of conducting research in Voluntary sector, first hand experience of issues relating to financial exclusion from within sector-leading financial inclusion project.

THE PETRIE MUSEUM.
The Petrie Museum is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to deliver gallery talks and tours on the Petrie Museum's collection to visitors so that there is continuing programme of events at the Petrie. These talks will take place weekly on alternate Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Training on how to prepare and deliver your talk or tour to a broad audience will be given. The talks will be 'Introductions' or 'Highlight' tours at first, followed by themes throughout the rest of the year. However, do let us know if you have a particular interest in the Petrie collection we'd love to hear about it.

FOOD4THOUGHT STUDY SUPPORT.
F4T is a supplementary study support service which aims to increase the level of academic attainment of students from a BME background. It also provides social and cultural activities such as summer residentials & university visits to enrich motivation and ambition amongst those from the targeted background.
We provide after-school study support in school premises and community centres, 1-2-1 tutoring, booster sessions, university visits, mentoring, food, day trips, reading club, summer residentials, and have an extensive Partnership network with the wider society.
We are currently looking for volunteers to provide 1-2-1 mentoring support to young people in schools in East London.

CAMPAIGNS INTERN (DELEGATIONS)
ACTSA is currently offering a unique internship to organise and help lead a delegation of UK trade unionists to southern Africa.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to work well under their own initiative, with exceptional organisational and time management skills. The ability to confidently liaise with key strategic partners in the UK and southern Africa is a essential. Sound political knowledge is a must.
The full-time internship will commence at the end of July for at least 4 months. The successful candidate must commit to travel to southern Africa for the delegation in October. Interviews will take place the week of 16th July. Short-listed candidates will then be invited to spend a day in the office, meeting staff and being introduced to the role, prior to a final decision being made.
Please note that these are unpaid positions. ACTSA will however cover expenses (up to 3 a day for lunch and all travel within London) and delegation expenses.
