Tender (Until the Violence Stops)
Cards for young people
19 Nov –25 Nov
Tender runs an educational project, TRUST, that works with young people to develop healthy relationships. Using drama and the creative arts, TRUST aims to challenge young people’s tolerance to violence and abuse in relationships. The project also equips young people with information about where they can find support if they, or someone they know, experience abuse.
In order to achieve this, we give specially-designed card games with helplines and websites to each student in the participating Year set. As a one-off volunteer, you will be ensuring that these card games get to the young people in the secondary schools.
Please contact Petra on p.wahlqvist@ucl.ac.uk if you are interested.

Kids Company Volunteers Pool
Kids company is a children's charity that offers therapeutic and practical support to vulnerable inner city children, either at our children's centre or in schools.
The ‘Kids Company Volunteers Pool’ includes around two hundred people. We contact our Volunteers Pool via email whenever we need extra support, and we always get a good response. These volunteers have assisted with events, office administration, Christmas, trips – even acting as a taxi service for prison visits or for helping young people move house. We can always rely on getting at least a handful of volunteers together, even at the very last minute.
We are hugely dependant on the generous offers of their time and are very grateful for their consistent enthusiastic support. We are always looking for more volunteers to help in any way possible.
Please contact Petra on p.wahlqvist@ucl.ac.uk
++PHILIP LAWRENCE AWARDS++
Philip Lawrence Awards – Event Organisers wanted
The Philip Lawrence Awards are now in their 12th year. They work from the premise that young people are their own best role models and that, given a chance, they can transform their communities through vision and determination. The Awards recognise young people from all over the country (usually between the ages of 10 and 20) who have created and implemented projects which are designed to tackle cutting-edge issues in their communities: crime, racial tension, homophobia, drug abuse, anti-social behaviour etc.
The Award ceremony – held each December in the UCL Bloomsbury – is a celebration and a recognition of their efforts. Hosted by Sir Trevor McDonald, there is a large performance element of music and dance by young people in various colleges and schools - and sometimes drawn from past award winners. The Home Secretary also attends and makes a speech.
The day before the ceremony has always been earmarked as a time when past winners can get together to brainstorm, to inspire - and (importantly!) to socialise and make new friends. Many of the young people live in deprived areas and in testing circumstances. Some may still be in education, others will not have found that path an easy one.
We’re looking for a group of UCL students who could help organise the reunion event for past winners (to take place on the 3rd December). We’re looking for people with ideas, energy and ability to make a really special event, working in partnership with some of the previous award winners.
