THE DORCAS PROJECT
Volunteer befriender needed by the DORCAS PROJECT to befriend friendly, young Turkish woman who is partially sighted attending South Bank University studying Law. The client who is 19, lives at home in EC1 (about 5 mins walk from the Angel) with her mother, father and her younger brother.
The client would like someone to help her read some of her textbooks, as she gets tired trying to concentrate on reading, and support her generally in her studies, with her reading and essay writing. She would also like someone who could escort her out on outings to the shops, etc, (and so relieve her mother of this duty)
Our client’s availability varies from time to time depending on her units at Uni, but she is generally free on a mon and thurs morning between 9 and 12noon, and at weekends, anytime.
When not studying, she enjoys reading novels, creative writing (she has an ambition to write a novel), painting, and watching TV, (Home & Away/CSI/Law & Order).

Heath Hands is looking for groups of volunteers to participate in this day long event on Friday 23rd May from 10.30am.
We are looking for 50 to 100 volunteers to help remove Himalayan Balsam from the Kenwood House Estate on Hampstead Heath. Himalayan Balsam is a non native species that is extremely invasive, smothering native woodland plants and rapidly spreading to engulf areas of scrub and grassland. Each plant can produce 800 seeds and the spring-loaded seed-heads can propel the seeds up to seven metres away. We are trying to remove the Balsam before it gets a chance to set seed.

++FLORA MARATHON CHEERERS++
ROYAL NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION
The Flora London Marathon takes place on 13 April 2008 and we are looking for enthusiastic individuals to come along and make up a team of cheerers for the RNLI!
Come join us on race day and cheer on our TEAM RNLI runners in the marathon! There will be a real party atmosphere – runners will cross this point at miles 13/14 and 21 so we will have the chance to cheer on runners twice!
With the biggest team to date – over 200 runners - We need cheerers to work in a team to set up our cheering point, meet friends and family of TEAM RNLI runners, man the RNLI stand, distribute flags, noisemakers, supporter boards and balloons to the crowd and just make themselves stand out to cheer on our runners all the way! We also need volunteers to take photos of the crowd and passing runners, so we are hoping the cheerers will spur the crowd and encourage them to keep running!

THE STUART LOW TRUST
Centre Coordinator Assistants required for small health promotion charity, working with those suffering from mental distress or isolation. We are looking for enthusiastic, sociable and reliable volunteers to help deliver an exciting programme of activities for individuals seeking improved physical and emotional wellbeing.
Our aim is to provide a safe space for people to have fun and perhaps learn a new skill, as well as gain the support and companionship of others. We aim to promote good health and well-being for local people as well as those living in the surrounding areas of Islington.
The role will involve helping the centre manager supervise and/or deliver a range of activities for the project. This may include:
- Greeting/welcoming new members to the centre
- Providing help/assistance to members
- Facilitating sessions and/or activities where necessary (i.e. cooking workshop, film club, reading group).
- setting up rooms for use (i.e. arranging tables/chairs)
We are looking for regular volunteers who can commit to an evening or more a week (available 6-10pm, on Wednesdays, Saturdays or Sundays), as well as less frequent volunteers (once/twice a month) and also people who are willing to be ‘bank workers’ and fill in as necessary. Those working on a less frequent basis will need to agree a month in advance, so that we can plan ahead and make sure the centre is fully staffed, and must commit to a block of 4 hours (6-10pm).
Skills required:
- The ability to feel comfortable or have experience of working with vulnerable groups, or display a degree of maturity and sensitivity to mental health needs.
- Degree of flexibility with range of duties involved, as roles may vary at different points in time.
- The ability to relate easily to a broad range of people and display sensitivity, understanding and empathy to service users.
A CRB check will be required for this role.
Travel expenses will be paid.

From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation is looking for volunteers to run a 10K charity race on 6 July, and raise valuable funds for the Foundation. We work to transform the lives of disadvantaged and disaffected young people hrough projects such as a Day Support Programme for young people who are excluded from the society or mainstream school, and ‘Calling the Shots’, an OCN accredited multimedia educational programme to increase awareness against gun/knife crime, gang activities and other anti social behaviour among young people and promote active citizenship among young people.

If you’d like to develop your leadership skills, and are free in early July – then Frontrunner might interest you.
Frontrunner is a four-day residential programme, free of charge, for pre-career leaders.
It is aimed at those who have already shown evidence of leadership through their activities and aims to inspire them to continue producing real change in their future careers. The programme is open to people over 18, who may be either still in full time education or are in the very early stages of their career, probably in their first job.
The participants will go on visits across different sectors, be exposed to real-life leadership dilemmas, meet the leaders who hold the day to day responsibility for them and explore the skills required to be effective leaders in the workplace - and the society we live in.
If you have already taken a lead in creating effective change and want to continue to make a difference Frontrunner could be for you.

Shadow Puppetry - Volunteers needed to do preliminary work with shadow puppetry techniques for new project next year!
The VSU is adding another group to its growing range of skills pools - the Entertainment Pool! This will be launched next academic year, but we are doing some preliminary work in the third term of this year to prepare. We are looking for a few people who would like to experiment with different shadow puppet techniques, which will inform the training for the skills pool and give a taste of the sort of show the pool will be able to devise.
The idea behind the shadow puppetry work is to have a group of people who are able to do this sort of performance for charity organisations or for children in hospital, etc. It is a creative and fun wayoff volunteering, so if you have some spare time to help with the pilot work.

Help! The Stroke Association is searching for 150 volunteers in the London and Surrey areas to help make their Thames Bridges Bike Ride a huge success – are you free to help?
Volunteer roles are varied and fun and include:
-Start team: Duties include scanning the riders off and manning the registration and help desks.
-Pit Stop Crews: Duties include handing out water and directing and motivating the cyclists on their way.
-Finish Team: Duties include scanning the riders past the finish line, handing out medals and directing people around the park.
-Route Marshall: The main duty of this essential role is to manage key points on the route, ensuring the cyclists are in the right direction, and giving them some motivation.

This will include assisting speakers, delegates and exhibitors with registration, information, programmes, maps, promotional materials, as well as any other ad hoc duties that may arise. The event which will be held in Richmond Park on Saturday 10th May 2008 and is organised by students at Imperial. They are looking for students from other universities to help by acting as marshalls for this event. In return, every volunteer marshall receives a certificate for their contribution along with a goody bag from our prestigious sponsors.

Volunteer marshals wanted to help co-ordinate this exciting family event at Wormwood Scrubs. You will be helping to supervise activities and providing information and support to people attending the event.
The event is open to the public from 11am till 3pm, with the official opening ceremony at 12pm. Volunteers are also wanted to help set up before and clear up after the event. Volunteers can pick one or more hour slots between 10am and 4pm to help out. This event is organised by Groundwork, an environmental charity.

Volulnteers needed to give demonstrations, Presentations or lead workshops on a one-off basis at the Stroke Project.
The Stroke Project requires volunteers to deliver presentations/workshops in the arts, music, etc to stimluate our groups. Enthusiasm and a sense of fun are required but no experience/qualifications needed. Enrich the lives of stroke survivors while gaining valuable experience and skills.
The workshops would be delivered on a one-off basis, so no ongoing commitment required!

The Stroke Association – The Thames Bridges Bike Ride
Sunday 11 May 7am to 5pm
Help! The Stroke Association is searching for 150 volunteers in the London and Surrey areas to help make their Thames Bridges Bike Ride a huge success – are you free to help?
Volunteer roles are varied and fun and include:
-Start team: Duties include scanning the riders off and manning the registration and help desks.
-Pit Stop Crews: Duties include handing out water and directing and motivating the cyclists on their way.
-Finish Team: Duties include scanning the riders past the finish line, handing out medals and directing people around the park.
-Route Marshall: The main duty of this essential role is to manage key points on the route, ensuring the cyclists are in the right direction, and giving them some motivation.

Easter Revision for secondary students! April 7th – April 18th, Monday to Friday 2Ppm - 5pm.
Our Easter revision sessions are extremely popular, and the young people who come really enjoy talking to and learning from university students! We would like to invite any students who have some free time during the Easter holidays to sign up to volunteer on this hugely beneficial project. Volunteers will be tutoring and mentoring young people in year 9 and above, whilst they revise for their upcoming exams.

If you are looking to do something more productive with your time than getting drunk and watching neighbours, we have a seriously ill child waiting for your energy, enthusiasm and positive attitude!
Over the Wall provides week long, residential activity camps for young people (8-17) who are affected by serious illnesses such as HIV/ Aids, cancers, paralysis and burns/ disfigurements.
By volunteering to participate in activities such as horse riding, archery, rock climbing, arts & crafts, music and drama, you could help bring laughter and hope to the life of a child that needs it most. Best of all it's COMPLETELY FREE and we even pay reasonable travel expenses, so take a chance and do something different!

Walk the Walk needs a strong team of volunteers to help run the MoonWalk and support 15,000 women and men as they complete a Power Walking marathon raising money and awareness for vital breast cancer causes.
Duties include registering volunteers, handing out hot food and water, giving out medals and goody bags, marshalling the route, driving support cars, cycling and generally being enthusiastic and supportive.

UCL (EISD) – CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION 2008
UCL’s Teaching & Learning Conference and Exhibition
Volunteers needed for UCL’s Teaching & Learning Conference and Exhibition (TILT) 2008 15th -16th April 2008
This will be the 6th UCL Biennial Teaching & Learning Conference and Exhibition –TILT 2008. It provides a great forum for the UCL community to share good practice, to hear about innovative approaches and to discuss topics of current significance in teaching, learning and assessment.
We are looking for volunteers to provide on-the-day support for the Coordinator and her colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the Conference. This will include assisting speakers, delegates and exhibitors with registration, information, programmes, maps, promotional materials, as well as any other ad hoc duties that may arise. This is a great opportunity to gain invaluable experience in event management and to develop a variety of transferrable skills.
