++UCL CURRENT STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED++
IntoUNIVERSITY

IntoUniversity, a youth education charity, will be bringing a group of 20 young people aged 10-16 to visit UCL university on Friday 1st August.

They will have completed 4 days of different sporting activities and their university visit will be the culmination of their week. Volunteers will be needed to assist small groups on a campus tour, take part in activities about university and attend the ‘Graduation’ at the end of the day.

Current students will be a real asset to the day- sharing authentic student experience and answering questions. It will be great to have students with us- particularly the morning session.

++VOLUNTEERS NEEDED++
LGBT CONSORTIUM

The Consortium of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Voluntary and Community Organisations (The LGBT Consortium) is the umbrella organisation for the LGBT sector. With a membership of around 400 groups and organisations, we exist to support and represent their needs.

We are looking for a volunteer from a BME community who identifies as LGBT, to support the Consortium in its work with BME (black and minority ethnic) LGBT organisations. The BME outreach volunteer’s main role will be to map (i.e. research) organisations/groups across the UK who deliver services to and support LGBT BME people, and to make and maintain contact with them.

The BME outreach volunteer will also support the Consortium’s staff members in their work with BME LGBT organisations and groups. We are looking for someone from a BME background who identifies as LGBT. You will have confident, good communication skills, intercultural awareness and an interest in the LGBT BME sector(s). Experience of working in the BME or LGBT sectors is an advantage but not essential.

You may have gained some of the experience and skills listed below through paid, voluntary or educational experience. The Consortium aims to provide individuals with the opportunity to update existing skills and knowledge as well as gain new skills in different areas. Please do not feel discouraged from applying if you are unsure whether you meet the requirements.

++ADMINISTRATOR FOR PROJECT:LONDON++
MEDECINS DU MONDE UK

Book candidates on info evenings, arrange interviews, send references and CRB checks, enter data. Complete the volunteer’s file, update the list of active volunteers, book them on training sessions.

Coordinate and organise the clinic setting before and after the sessions, purchase refreshments, book rooms and prepare and distribute leaflets.

Coordinate emergency procedures and make sure the safety rules are respected at all times.

++VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISERS NEEDED++

UBS (The Universal Beneficient Society) assists elderly people living in difficult circumstances.

They are looking for volunteers to help with bucket collections for the following dates:

20 August, Victoria Place Shopping Centre - The time would be morning or late afternoon for approx 3 hrs. If you have some time to spare and would like to support this charity's important work, please get in touch!

++DAY TRIP TO WALTON-ON-NAZE++
THE DORCAS PROJECT

Volunteers needed to assist elderly clients on day trip to Walton-on-Naze on 12 Aug.

Volunteers principally needed to assist clients with impaired mobility where volunteer may need to push a wheelchair and assist that client.

We aim to leave centre at around 9.30am, travel to Walton-on-Naze by small coach, spend day by the sea, including having lunch, and return about 5pm, arriving back at community centre about 7pm.

SOMERS TOWN COMMUNITY CENTRE

Somers Town Community Centre currently has provision for older people and under 5’s, and we are planning to extend and add to both in the coming future.

We have opportunities for volunteers interested in working with older people and the under 5’s and welcome new ideas! Somers Town Community Centre is less than 10 minutes walk from the main UCL campus and has a large hall available for volunteering activities as well as smaller meeting rooms and a fully-equipped under 5’s play area with outside space.

We also have a well-equipped commercial kitchen and dining room. We will offer a professional volunteering agreement, with certificates for volunteering achievements, as well as references for you in the future. We would welcome new volunteering ideas as well as help with the existing provision.

THE TREE COUNCIL

The Tree Council is a small charity based in central London, with only 5 members of staff.

With a busy schedule of annual campaigns, the Tree Warden Scheme, a tree planting grants scheme and service provision for our 180 member organisations, we punch far above our weight. We're therefore looking for a volunteer that will support our work on a variety of levels.

The core of your role will be to carry out internet and phone research to help generate the information required to support our membership scheme and our local Community Action Programme. We would also like your support in identifying local community tree events through web research and will train you to upload relevant materials on our website.

We're looking for a hands-on, flexible volunteer who's happy to take on any tasks that naturally flow from the responsibilities described above. We promise to make the effort to support you in developing your skills; what we want from you is an enthusiastic and positive mindset to support our small charity.

We're looking for a volunteer to support us for a minimum of 5 hours/week and a minimum period of 3 months, starting asap. Your experience: Required: - confident and resourceful in web research - confident in communicating over the phone and in person Desirable: - experience in web maintenance - experience in Access.

Childhood First is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to support its fundraising department in raising money from grant making trusts to develop services for some of the most disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

This position is ideally suited to someone who is considering a career in charity fundraising. No previous experience is needed. Instead, we are looking for a keen individual with a can-do approach, strong research and communication skills, and time to dedicate to this important role.

With training and support from an experienced trust fundraising professional, this is a great opportunity to build your fundraising skills and gain valuable work experience in the charity sector.

++TEA DANCE VOLUNTEER 3RD & 7TH AUGUST 2008++
CAMDEN CENTRE

Warm and outgoing volunteers needed for a tea dance for elderly people on Sunday 3rd Aug & Thursday 7th Aug from 1-5:30pm.

Tasks include taking tickets at the door, helping to serve tea, coffee and cakes and generally chatting and being friendly to the elderly people at the dance.

The event takes place in the Camden centre close to King's Cross.

The Somers Town Community Centre currently caters for Under 5’s and Older People, but we are hoping to expand to your provision, and our Manager needs to pass some of the general office administrative burden to a committed and helpful volunteer.

++ADVICE AND ASSESSMENT VOLUNTEER++
ALONE IN LONDON (EPIC TRUST)

The aim of the volunteer role is to provide practical and emotional support for young people who are vulnerable by exploring the range of options open to them.

The advice and assessment worker runs a drop-in service and carries out follow up casework, as well as networking with other community groups.

As a volunteer you will be an integral part of this service.

++ADVOCACY SUPPORT VOLUNTEER++
ALONE IN LONDON (EPIC TRUST)

The aim of the volunteer role is to provide practical and emotional support for young people who are vulnerable by exploring the range of options open to them.

It represents young people using all relevant legislation, with the Housing and Childrens Act as key tools.

Volunteers would be assisting young people to have a voice and to understand their rights.

++VOLUNTEER BENGALI LAGUAGE TUTOR++
SOMERS TOWN COMMUNITY CENTRE

The Somers Town Community Centre is a 10 minute walk from the main UCL Campus, and we are looking for volunteers to help support our English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) classes for members of the community who speak Bengali to learn English.

We currently run ESOL classes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday between 1 and 3pm and would welcome extra volunteering help with tutoring our Bengali speakers.

We need other Bengali speakers to help with these small teaching groups, but non-Bengali speakers would also be very welcome. Some of the groups are women or men only, and we welcome help with either. Some of the groups are women or men only, and we welcome help with either.

We would also welcome speaker of other languages who might like to teach those languages at the Centre – please get in touch.

++UNDER 5’S PROVISION VOLUNTEER++
SOMERS TOWN COMMUNITY CENTRE

The Somers Town Community Centre has various provision for Under 5 year olds.

This includes a Soft Play Scheme between 10am and 12 noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and a “Little Kickers” football coaching activity between 9.15am and 11am on Tuesdays, and a crèche on Thursdays between 10am and 12 noon and Fridays between 1pm and 3pm.

We would welcome help with any of our Early Years provision, and training and support will be provided.

++ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP LEADER++
TOYNBEE HALL

If you are up for the challenge, why not become an Active Citizenship leader and work with young people on campaigning and ethical enterprise activities.

The Education team at Toynbee Hall makes a difference by enabling vulnerable young people to engage in responsible and challenging activities and young people will have the opportunity to get involved in campaigning and ethical enterprise.

Volunteers will be supported to facilitate these active, fun events in schools and local communities. Your role will be to engage and inspire participants, whilst providing practical support and sharing your skills and knowledge.

You will gain the opportunity to develop leadership and motivation skills while gaining the experience of working with disadvantaged young people in school and community settings

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and enthusiasm for campaigning or business experience, particularly ethical or social enterprise would be valuable for the role.

We are looking for two full days during July, there are two training sessions (out of office hours), with the possibility of ongoing commitment for interested volunteers.
