++ASPIRE VOLUNTEER COACHES++
TOYNBEE HALL

It’s that time of year again, when we are looking for enthusiastic passionate individuals to be Aspire Volunteer Coaches!

The new term kicks off in September and we are looking forward to a bigger brighter Aspire this coming year. More schools, more young people and more volunteers!

We are aiming to work with up to 160 13-15 year old students this year in Tower Hamlets, giving more young people the chance to shine, achieve and reach their potential in the local community.

The Aspire Project will engage young people, classified as “overlooked and disengaged”, on a year long programme of activities aimed at building their aspirations, raising their self esteem and confidence so that they can re-engage in the classroom and ultimately reach their potential.

The Aspire Volunteer Coaches will play a vital role in guiding the young people through the course of the project, inspiring them to engage with and get the most out of the project activities by providing practical support around areas such as learning and study skills where necessary/appropriate.

There will be in-school sessions during the school day as well as after school and weekend workshops. Over three terms, the workshops will focus on arts (theatre and film), citizenship and outdoors (probably sailing).

If you want to make a real difference to young people in Tower Hamlets, gain new skills and have a positive, friendly attitude we would love to hear from you.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in please email Marlon on marlon.brown@ucl.ac.uk

++VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED++
JUNCTION49

Volunteers needed to help coordinate a fun one-off event to tackle the issue of free cycling around London.

In other European countries the big cities provide free bikes for the public to use around the city, encouraging both a healthy lifestyle and lower fuel emission. You guys can help to campaign for this using some wacky ideas for a one-off event! Can you spare a bit of your free time to help to organise a one-off event, which will be a performance art display using bikes, fancy dress, dramatic acts, and a huge bicycle stunt display in a public space such as Covent Garden or the South Bank.

Although this event is London based and will take place in the first week of September, wherever you are in the country you can take part from the comfort of your own home! There are 3 ways you can get involved:

1. You could take on a task at home, for example, researching cycling groups in London.

2. You could take on a task that will require a visit to London, so for example,, visiting potential locations to hold the event.

3. If you would like to get more involved you can come and volunteer for a couple of days in the TimeBank offices in London Bridge, helping to put together the event. This would be great experience for anyone who wants to get involved in event and project management. We also cover all your expenses such as food and travel and also accommodation if you don't live in London!

We really want to make this a cool event and we would really appreciate your contribution, however big or small. If you are interested, please drop me an email on help@junction49.co.uk
