Action for Southern Africa

We campaign for peace, democracy and development in Southern Africa and we are the successor organisation to the Anti-Apartheid Movement

Internships are available on a three-month cycle.

Main Activity

We campaign here in the UK and Europe on issues that affect the whole of Southern Africa from debt, access to HIV/AIDS drugs, trade rules, as well as specific countries such as Zimbabwe and Angola. We aim to change rules and people's attitudes here to the benefit of Southern Africa. We lobby parliament, run public campaigns, attack businesses and so on.

Description

Action for Southern Africa campaigns for peace, democracy and development in Southern Africa. We work on issues that affect the whole of the region including access to HIV/AIDS drugs, debt and trade. We also focus on specific countries such as Zimbabwe and Angola. We're the successor organisation to the Anti-Apartheid Organisation and have a large membership base here in the UK. Our work involves lobbying government, challenging people's attitudes and perceptions as well as focussing on business practices. We're a small organisation so volunteers tend to get involved in most aspects of our work and certainly get to meet all the staff. If you're looking to work in the charity/NGO sector, the experience you gain whilst volunteering at ACTSA will be invaluable
