Description
Camden Federation of Private Tenants (CFPT) provides a voice for private tenants in Camden. Run by and for private tenants, CFPT was set up in 1980 as a mutual support group to help tenants organise and campaign for their rights. We aim to enable private tenants to improve their housing conditions. To do this we publicise the problems of Camden's private tenants by raising issues, promoting solutions and lobbying for stronger rights. We encourage better council services for private tenants, resist cuts in services, push for improvements to private tenants' housing conditions and for stronger tenancy rights.
CFPT works with national housing groups such as Shelter to lobby and promote private tenants' rights. We put pressure on councillors, committees and departments of the council to get things done. We provide information, support and basic advice on tenants' rights.
CFPT is not a casework advice agency. However we do refer people to advice agencies and can put people in touch with other tenants experiencing similar problems.
We organise meetings, workshops and training on private tenant issues with expert housing advice workes, Environmental Health Officers and solicitors. CFPT has a membership who act as a consultative body both locally and nationally on tenant issues.
