Charities Advisory Trust

The Charities Advisory Trust (CAT) was founded in 1979, with Home Office funding, to help other charities improve the profitability of their trading activities, through impartial advice.

Main Activity

Currently it runs a range of initiatives, for example Good Gifts, Charity Direct and the Green Hotel in India. Through the funds it raises each Christmas with Card Aid, CAT gives grants to a wide range of projects, from Innovative Cancer Research to chicken farms in Kenya.

Description

Card Aid is an initiative of the Charities Advisory Trust, which raises funds for charities through the sale of Christmas cards. Through Card Aid shops, charities are able to reach a much broader market than their supporter groups alone would provide. Volunteering is fun and a worthwhile experience, and volunteers really make a difference to the success of the shop. It is a good way to learn about customer services and retail and a brilliant opportunity to learn about the charity sector, particularly the breadth of oranisations which exist, not to mention how great it will look o your CV.
NB Foreign volunteers who want to improve their English - this is a great way!

We have also recently set up a gift shop in Covent Garden, for which we need volunteers all through the year.
