Health Unlimited

Health Unlimited works with communities living in remote, inaccessible areas of countries affected by war or political instability. We provide basic health care, health education and train local health workers and community volunteers; and help to prevent life-threatening diseases such as Malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS.

Our vision is a world in which the poorest and most marginalized enjoy their right to health.

Main Activity

We promote safe motherhood through health care projects focusing on nutrition, immunisation, safer birthing techniques, fully equipped health centres, clean drinking water & sanitation.
We train local health workers such as traditional birth attendants and community volunteers.
We provide health education – our health education radio programmes reach over 26 million beneficiaries.
Capacity building and advocacy are important elements of our work – working with communities we help build the capacity of local people to influence local and national policy and practice – empowering indigenous people to claim their right to healthcare. This is supported by facilitating the creation of local organisations and building institutional capacity.

Description

Health Unlimited is an overseas aid charity specialised in delivering health services in the remote areas of countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, which have been affected by conflict or political instability.

The work we do is very special. We give priority to communities who would otherwise be neglected by their own government because they are considered too expensive to reach, communities which have been affected by conflict but are no longer in the spotlight of the media.

We are recruiting fundraising volunteering teams, which will have the opportunity to see grassroots development in action! All we ask is that teams raise £5,000 over a period of 12 months and as a reward, the members will have the opportunity to shadow Health Unlimited field staff for up to 10 days in Cambodia, Rwanda or Guatemala. This is a unique opportunity for students interested in international development to witness first hand development in action!

Once you have reached your total target of £5,000 we will refund you £400 towards the cost of one airfare

Not only will this programme provide you with excellent fundraising experience to enhance your CV, but you will also be helping to promote awareness of Health Unlimited and the valuable work that we do with marginalised communities .

You are not expected to volunteer during your visit – the volunteering you do is the fundraising! The visit is intended as a reward – to give you a first-hand insight of development in action!
