Organising and supporting volunteer visitors who visit one detainee each to provide emotional support and practical assistance.
Description
LDSG Volunteers visit one named immigration detainee, usually in Harmondsworth or Colnbrook, both near Heathrow. Volunteers visit every week to 10 days, at a time convenient (visiting hours are 2pm-9pm). They provide emotional support and an opportunity for the detainee to talk about his problems and worries. They also provide practical help where possible, e.g. liasing with solicitors and bail organisations. (Both detention centres currently only hold single men).
