London Gay Symphony Orchestra

The London Gay Symphony Orchestra is the only lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender orchestra in the UK. Not only that, but we're straight-friendly too!
The Orchestra was formed as a musical home for the large number of gay and lesbian musicians who wanted to combine their music and social lives. The atmosphere in the Orchestra is a mix of commitment and hilarity and our concerts have an electrifying energy that players unanimously agree they do not experience in other orchestras, possibly because our concerts attract a significant number of people who do not attend other classical concerts.
The Orchestra prides itself on being run by its members, for its members.

Main Activity

4-5 concerts a year, attendance at Pride (playing on main stage, stall, marching), and a variety of other community activities throughout the year.

Description

Volunteers help out in a number of ways – at rehearsals by collecting subs, distributing music, preparing refreshments, etc; at concerts with a variety of front of house activities such as the box office, behind the bar, meeting and greeting VIPs, etc; and behind the scenes by helping with the website or programme design.

The LGSO is totally run by volunteers – no one is paid.
