London Nightline
To provide listening and information to students in London
Main Activity
A telephone helpline and email service providing listening and information to students in London. Volunteers work the helpline and email service
Description
London Nightline is a telephone helpline offering confidential listening, support and information to students in London. It is open every night of term from 6pm to 8am.
Nightline is run by students who have all undergone full training and a selection procedure. We have been running for over thirty-five years, since we were set up in 1971 with the help of The Samaritans.
Students can call us to talk over any issue. Although we can't give advice we can provide a caller with a non-judgemental and empathetic ear and the reassurance that the call will be treated with the strictest confidence. We can sign post callers to other organisations that they may find useful too.
Nightline's not just there for the nasty things though. Students can phone us just for a chat or if they're looking for some information. We can provide callers with information about pretty much anything and we will always do our best to track down even the trickest request!
London Nightline now has an Email listening service too. The same confidential listening support and information that is available over the phone is now available by email.
Nightline can provide you with a fantastic volunteering opportunity. Not only will you find working at Nightline a worthwhile experience, but you will also get something outstanding for your CV and be able to put something positive back into the student community! Moreover, you will meet lots of like minded people, from a variety of colleges in London, and have the opportunity to get involved in the running of a small charity. You don't need any experience as full training will be provided. So are you sympathetic, non judgemental, a good listener and patient? And do you like meeting people and want to make a difference? Nightline needs you!
