London's Air Ambulance
The relief of sickness or physical injury by the provision of emergency medical services and equipment and in particular by the provision of helicopter ambulance service or other emergency transportation under the auspices of the London Ambulance Service for the public benefit.
Main Activity
Attending to victims of major trauma which is severe or the threatening injury to brain or spine penetrating injuries, fractures or burns. The helicopter enables faster response time and it is also unlike normal ambulances, able to carry patients back to the most suitable hospital rather than supply the closest one. It also again unlike normal ambulances carries a special trauma doctor so care can be administered at the scene.
Description
London's Air Ambulance (LAA) provides medical care to victims of 'major trauma' those suffering from life threatening injuries to the brain or spine, penetrating injuries, fractures or burns, everywhere within the M25 ring-road. The Helicopter (or rapid response cars at night) carries a specialist trauma doctor so the patient can start receiving the correct treatment at the accident site instead of waiting to reach a hospital. The Helicopter can also take the patient back to the hospital most suited for their particular injuries instead of just the nearest one. These and other factors contribute to LAA's ability to give trauma victims the best chance of survival. Even though our service saves the lives of many people we are a charity and must raise £650,000 each year to survive. This is why we need your help! If you are able to offer any number of hours per month to; 'shake a bucket' at pre-booked venues, help switch over full donations tins in shops in your area, or if you can come into the office to help with some of the numerous tasks we have to do each week, any help would be appreciated. Office work could vary depending on your own particular skills.
