Refugee Project (student led project)
The purpose of this project is to assist young refugees between the ages of 15 to 22 in settling into British society. The project also aims to improve the language skills of refugees who may not have been in this country for a very long period of time. The main aim however, is to reduce some of the isolation many young refugees can feel in a new and foreign country.
Main Activity
The project aims to achieve its purpose through weekly meetings and informal conversation. We will also be planning and organising trips and outings depending on the funding available. We are hoping to go to the London Eye and to a variety of museums.
Description
The project involves befriending and building a rapport with young refugees. The project involves weekly trips to the Refugee Advice and Support Centre (RASC) in Hammersmith to take part in informal conversation. We also hope to go on some outings however these will be on an ad hoc basis.
The volunteers will not only find this project enjoyable and make some new friends, they will also have the opportunity to meet interesting individuals from across the world and gain an insight into what it really means to be a refugee.
