SANE/SANEline
Our Mission Statement: SANEline is committed to providing accurate and up-to-date information to give callers options for action and encourage them to benefit from whatever network of care exists in their own area. It also offers emotional and crisis support to people with mental health problems, their families, friends and information to professionals and organisations working in the mental health field.
Main Activity
We run a helpline, which is open 365 days a year, 1pm - 11pm every day. . Volunteers provide information and support to callers. Most callers are mental health service users, although other callers include carers, friends and family and sometimes mental health professionals.
Description
SANEline is the only national out of hours telephone helpline for people coping with mental health issues. We offer a listening ear, emotional support and up to date information on local and national services. SANEline can offer a lifeline to those who have felt helpless and confused.
Volunteers are the backbone of the helpline, and there are over 100 fully-trained helpline volunteers. We are constantly expanding our service, and as such are constantly recruiting.
If you feel that you can commit 4 hours per week for at least a year, then in return we offer full training and an excellent support system for our volunteers. The training is endorsed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and accredited by the Open College Network, meaning that you can achieve a qualification that could be used in your future career.
There is no typical SANEline volunteer, and we welcome applications from all areas of the community.
