School Governors' One-Stop Shop
To recruit volunteers with transferable skills to become governors and add value in schools across England
Main Activity
We recruit prospective school governor volunteers, primarily through recruitment events, and facilitate their efficient placement into the schools in greatest need
Description
Today’s schools are increasingly independent, placing heavier responsibility on the governing body for budgeting, standard-setting and strategic decision-making. The governor’s role is to be a 'critical friend' to the head teacher, helping with overall management.
Specifically, a school governors’ duties include attending 1-2 full governing body meetings per term and 1-2 sub committee meetings per term.
You do not have to be a parent, know about education, or have specific skills to be a good governor. You should be willing to work in a team, to challenge assumptions you may not agree with, to encourage and promote innovation and to male a full contribution to the decision making process.
