Springboard for Children
Literacy Charity specialising in the gift of reading and writing to primary school children in some of the poorest inner city areas. We seek to raise the expectations of the children we teach, strengthening their hope.
Main Activity
Springboard for children employs a blend of teachers, trained volunteers. Children are referred to us through the special educational needs co-ordinator and receive two hours of specialist tuition a week.
Description
At Springboard for children we support and encourage individual children who are struggling with learning. Our focus is on giving these children the gift of reading and writing, which opens the door to opportunities for their future. This opportunity is more than reading to a child - it's about helping children to read a book for themselves! Our volunteers are trained to deliver literacy lessons one-to-one or in a small group of children. Volunteers teach short lessons that are fun, interactive, and multi-sensory, using a range of 'tried and tested' resources. Springboard for children has been well established in primary schools in South London for over 12 years and we are now branching out into North London. As our project grows in North London there will be increasing need for volunteer literacy tutors to join our small and friendly team! If you can rise to the challenge and give us 6hrs a week…then arrange to come and visit us. We'll give you the training, and support to improve the life chances of local children. Come and visit our schools and you'll have the opportunity to see for yourself what we get up to at Springboard for Children.
