St Mungo's Community Housing Association Ltd

Our mission is to house, support and care for vulnerable people in London who either have been, or at risk of sleeping rough and homelessness. Our aim is to make sure that homeless and vulnerable people can look forward with optimism and can contribute to the quality of life.

Main Activity

We are best known for our outreach work and hostels for rough sleepers. But hostels are just a handful of over 60 housing projects we run and we do much more than simply provide shelter. Each night over 1,400 people sleep in safety under a St Mungo's roof in our care homes and specialist hostels, supported housing or our short stay hostels. Our 60 specialist workers meet a variety of needs from help with mental health problems to drug abuse to support setting up a new home. We provide London's largest directly delivered activity, training and employment programme, giving 2000 homeless people a year the chance to improve their lives.

Description

Our mission is to house, support and care for vulnerable people in London who either have been, or at risk of sleeping rough and homelessness. Our aim is to make sure that homeless and vulnerable people can look forward with optimism and can contribute to the quality of life.
We need volunteers to run and develop activity sessions in our hostels and semi-independent houses across Central London. Activities such as music, art, cooking, football, IT, photography and gardening are designed to develop the participant's self-esteem, encourage engagement and assist in improving their communication skills. Any suitable, constructive interest or activity that involuves our residents will be considered.

The Volunteers who run the activity sessions provide an invaluable contribution to the scheme. The unique quality and broad diversity of Volunteer skills ensures a variety of learning opportunities. All volunteers receive training, a hostel induction, supervision, travel expenses and on-going support.
