The Befriending Network
To support people living at home with a terminal illness by providing volunteer befrienders
Main Activity
Training and supporting volunteers to offer practical and emotional support to people living in the community with a life threatening illness
Description
The Befriending Network exists to help to improve the quality of life for people living at home with a life-threatening or terminal illness. Our volunteer Befrienders offer friendship, support and a listening ear. The Befirending Network selects, trains and supervises volunteer Befrienders who are asked to make a commitment to visit the person befriended for a year on a regular basis - usually weekly for two to three hours. This regular, long term, visiting can often lead to the developing of a relationship of real depth. Volunteers often tell us that they benefit from the experience of befriending which, they say, is enriching and life enhancing. We currently operate in several London Boroughs and are seeking to expand our services.
Sectors: Befriending, Terminal Illness and HIV
