The Consortium of Lesbian Gay Bisexual & Transgendered Voluntary and Community Organisations
To provide support to and represent the needs of the LGBT sector in England - a consultancy for the LGBT sector, if you like.
Main Activity
• Shout - giving voice to the range and breadth of LGBT voluntary and community organisations - polling for opinions, feeding back to agencies and co-ordinating consultation.
• Support - providing a range of services such as training, information, guidance, resources and tools.
• Share – acting as the conduit for exchanging resources, information, experience and best practice amongst the LGBT VCS. This includes physical events to share information and directory/database resources.
• Save/Store – being a repository and research store for relevant information, data and research that aids the development of the LGBT community.

The Consortium of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Voluntary and Community Organisations (The LGBT Consortium) is the umbrella organisation for the LGBT sector. With a membership of around 400 groups and organisations, we exist to support and represent the needs of LGBT groups and organisations in England.
As Communications Volunteer, your primary responsibility will be to research, write and disseminate the quarterly volunteering email newsletter. You will keep up-to-date with local, national and international policy and events in relation to volunteering, condense and write the information in a readable way and monitor responses to the newsletters. You will also be involved in establishing and monitoring a number of interactive communications forums such as yahoo groups.
The Communications Volunteer role is an exciting new role at The LGBT Consortium. As well as having the opportunity to become involved in a central part of the organisation’s communication strategy, you will gain experience in marketing and communications, project management, stakeholder management and building and maintaining effective working relationships. You will have the chance to work with all staff members and gain an overview of the organisation and its projects.
