Women's Design Service
WDS works to ensure that the design and use of the built environment reflects the needs and aspirations of women.
Main Activity
We work with women and with statutory, voluntary and academic organisations to incorporate women’s needs into the design of buildings, transport systems and open spaces. Women’s Design Service offers consultancy, training, information, advice and research on issues related to women and the design of urban environments. We are currently delivering training on the gender equality duty to built environment professionals. We have also been commissioned to carry out our ‘Making Safer Places’ work for several local authorities, and have just published our ‘Women’s Safety in Parks’ booklet which details the findings of women’s focus groups and women’s safety audits in a number of parks and green spaces.
Description
Women’s Design Service is a registered charity working on issues around gender and the built environment. We offer consultancy, training, information, advice and research on how and why women’s needs should be considered when designing and planning urban environments.
We are looking for female volunteers to come and work in our central London offices and assist us with a variety of tasks, at present mainly administrative. We would particularly welcome applications from those who have some experience in, or knowledge of, women’s / built environment issues though this is not essential.
As well as the positions advertised we would welcome applications from volunteers who would like to undertake ad hoc duties as and when needed, for example working at our events, assisting with large mail-outs, putting together exhibitions etc.
