Welcome to our summer volunteering bulletin. If you’re looking for something worthwhile to do, and have a bit of time free, you’re in the right place. You don't have to be available all summer – some of our activities are one-off events, and others short term projects that you can fit in with your holidays, work, study and general loafing about.
To find out more about any of these, email Marlon at marlon.brown@ucl.ac.uk

ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY @ THE ROUNDHOUSE
The RSC is performing Shakespeare’s history plays at the Roundhouse in Camden during the summer.
We would like to give theatre-lovers the chance to see this historic cycle by becoming a volunteer usher with the Roundhouse on a temporary basis for the duration of the season.
You would work alongside our regular ushers and also gain valuable experience in a front of house theatre role.
Applicants must be able to commit to working once a week during the eight-week run. They will be able to choose which plays they work on, so they will have the chance of seeing the entire cycle.

TOYNBEE HALL
The Young People & Families team at Toynbee Hall works with young people and their families, focusing on raising aspirations, leadership and the transition from primary to secondary school.
Between 28th of June and the 4th of July 150 primary school children from Tower Hamlets will have the opportunity to take part in outdoor activities at Chigwell Row Campsite as part of our E1 Active programme. 60 children a day will spend time in the countryside with their teachers, classmates, and a large team of volunteers trying new and exciting outdoor activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, and nature trails.
Volunteers are a vital part of the programme. We need residential volunteers who will play a key role in the smooth running of the programme - staying on site for the week and helping to plan and deliver the activities. Day volunteers to accompany the children to the park and assist with the days activities are also required.
This position does require a CRB Check, so if you are interested please get in touch ASAP.

THE UNIVERSAL BENEFICENT SOCIETY (UBS)

We provide financial assistance and friendship for life to elderly people who are living in difficult circumstances and are looking for volunteers to support our work in three roles:
-You can take part in a fundraising event, such as a sponsored walk, and raise money for the charity
-You can help collect money at stations and other places
-You can help organise and run events
We offer support, clear role descriptions and out-of-pocket expenses. Most of the roles are one-offs, so you can get involved for a short time period: upcoming events include bucket collections on 20 June, 28 June and 20 Aug, and a street party on 11 June.
HEATH HANDS
Heath Hands is looking for 50 to 100 volunteers to help remove Himalayan Balsam from the Kenwood House Estate on Hampstead Heath.
Himalayan Balsam is a non native species that is extremely invasive, smothering native woodland plants and rapidly spreading to engulf areas of scrub and grassland.
Each plant can produce 800 seeds and the spring-loaded seed-heads can propel the seeds up to seven metres away, so we are trying to remove the Balsam before it gets a chance to set seed.
APOSTLESHIP OF THE SEA (AOS)
The Apostleship of the Sea (AOS) provides the pastoral outreach of the Catholic Church to seafarers around the world - regardless of creed or nationality.
AOS (Great Britain) employs port chaplains and ship visitors to welcome seafarers to our shores as brothers and sisters, providing for their practical and pastoral needs onboard ship or in seafarers' centres.
90% of all world trade is carried by sea, and 150,000 merchant ships arrive in British ports each year.
The maritime industry is absolutely vital to our economy and way of life, but the conditions of the seafarers themselves are hidden from us. Seafarers have to work away from their families and communities for nine to twelve months at a time, suffering loneliness, depression, spiritual deprivation and even exploitation.
If you are interested in running 10K for us on 6 July, please get in touch!
FROM BOYHOOD TO MANHOOD
If your New Year's resolutions included getting fit and helping make a difference by doing something for charity, there is still a chance!
From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation is looking for volunteers to run a 10K charity race on 6 July, and raise valuable funds for the Foundation.
We work to transform the lives of disadvantaged and disaffected young people hrough projects such as a Day Support Programme for young people who are excluded from the society or mainstream school, and ‘Calling the Shots’, an OCN accredited multimedia educational programme to increase awareness against gun/knife crime, gang activities and other anti social behaviour among young people and promote active citizenship among young people.
Your running would help us raise valuable funds and should be a great experience as well!
