Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, get useful experience for your CV, and to try your hand at new activities. It can even open up whole new career paths for you – sometimes unexpectedly.

Often, though, we’re so busy volunteering that we don’t take time to think – how does this benefit me?

There are several ways in which you can use your volunteering to help you with your personal development planning.

1. The VSU runs regular ‘Volunteering and Your CV’ sessions with UCL Careers Service. Keep and eye on these webpages, or email us at volunteering@ucl.ac.uk to go onto our mailing list.

2. We also have a training programme, covering the topics that student volunteers have asked for, like leadership and first aid.

3. There are other things you can do on your own:
- Complete our 'Volunteering and Your CV' self assessment questionnaire.
- Visit UCL Careers Service
- Look at the resources on the UCL Key Skills website

Remember, if you have any questions about your volunteering, or would like help in finding a suitable project, feel free to get in touch with us at the Voluntary Services Unit.
